Cambridge, ON – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charlie Lennox, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and one of Ontario hockey’s most respected leaders in officiating.
Charlie dedicated much of his life to the game of hockey and, more importantly, to the people who make the game possible. Through his many years of service with the Ontario Hockey Association, including his role as Coordinator of Officials, Charlie helped shape the careers of countless referees and linespersons. His influence extended far beyond the rink, as he became a trusted teacher, advisor, and role model to generations of officials throughout Ontario and across Canada.
Known for his integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence, Charlie believed that every official deserved an opportunity to learn, improve, and succeed. He was passionate about developing young people, encouraging them to pursue their goals with confidence, discipline, and respect. Many officials who advanced to junior, major junior, professional, and international levels credit Charlie’s guidance and mentorship as instrumental in their success.
While hockey was a significant part of Charlie’s life, those who knew him best will remember him for far more than his accomplishments within the sport. He possessed a generous spirit, a warm smile, and a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether offering advice, sharing a story, or lending a helping hand, Charlie left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
His leadership was never measured by titles or accolades but by the countless lives he touched. He understood that the true legacy of a person is found in the impact they have on others, and Charlie’s legacy will continue through the many individuals he mentored, encouraged, and inspired throughout his lifetime.
The Ontario hockey community has lost a dedicated steward of the game, but Charlie’s influence will endure in arenas, dressing rooms, and officiating programs for years to come. His contributions helped strengthen the sport he loved and ensured that future generations would benefit from his vision, wisdom, and commitment.
Family, friends, colleagues, and members of the hockey community are invited to celebrate Charlie’s life and legacy at a reception to be held at St. Paul’s Church in Gravenhurst, Ontario, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
As we remember Charlie, we celebrate a life defined by service, mentorship, friendship, and a deep love for hockey and community. Though he will be greatly missed, his example will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Charlie. Your whistle may be silent, but your legacy will echo through the game and the lives you touched forever.
