In the 2024-2025 season, Kelly was one of Eight (8) bursary recipients of $6,000 each

Cambridge, ON – From Cobourg to Canton! Kelly is a classic example of late bloomer to hockey. He really started to excel at the sport in 2021 when from out of nowhere he made the jump from Midget AA to the Port Hope Panthers (PJHL) making the team out of camp! From there things began to escalate, including stops with the Ayr Centennials (GOJHL) and his hometown Cobourg Cougars (OJHL). He continues to be on the upswing, averaging close to a point-per-game on the SUNY Canton hockey team this season.
He may have been late to excel at hockey, but when it comes to academics, Kelly has always been a rockstar. He finished high school with a 93% average. However, similar to his hockey career, his academics continue to improve as well. He finished his first year at SUNY Canton with a 4.0 GPA. As well as finishing the first semester with the best GPA in his program (Health and Fitness Promotion) for a freshman!

A lot has occurred in Kelly’s life in recent years. Winning the bursary stands out a lot, however. “Receiving this bursary changed my life by helping me financially with school in the US,” Kelly said. “The life of a college hockey player can be hectic, so with the help of this bursary, major weight was taken off my shoulders, allowing me to focus more on my hockey and school. My experience in Canton has been nothing short of amazing and I can’t thank the OHA and Dairy Farmers of Ontario enough.”
Such a life changing experience leads the bursary recipient down a more fruitful path in life. A path that is more prone to greatness. “I have learned that I am capable of adapting to a new situation and thriving more than I expected.” Kelly said. “Moving to another country was a big change for me, but this opportunity has been once and a lifetime for me, and I have been able to succeed athletically and academically more than I could have ever hoped for, showing me that uncomfortable situations bring out the best in you and you can do anything you put your mind to.”
Winning a bursary of this magnitude at such an early age is a hugely positive change in the life of the recipient. Not only is there a significant windfall of cash, but also being recognized as part of the upper echelon goes a long ways. Logan has some advice for anyone that is thinking of applying. “I would tell them to take the time to fill out the application, no matter what. Even if you think you may not be selected, there is no sense in leaving the opportunity to receive a bursary that may change your life.”
