2024 Bursary Recipient David Brown

Cambridge, ON – An outstanding hockey player and an excellent student, Brown has a lot going for him. The Blenhiem-native and assistant captain of the London Nationals (GOJHL) is seeking a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from Western University.

With all of this going on, it can be a challenge to juggle life, “The school year has been going well. Balancing academics, research, and hockey has been a challenge, but I have been able to manage my time effectively,” said Brown. “My current average is approximately 80%, and I continue to stay focused on my academic and athletic goals.”

Winning a bursary of this magnitude at such a young age is a hugely positive change in the life of the recipient. “Receiving the OHA Bursary has been an incredible honour. It has provided financial support that allows me to focus on my education and training without as much financial stress,” Brown said. “The recognition has also motivated me to keep striving for excellence both on and off the ice, knowing that my hard work is being acknowledged.”

As well, since receiving the bursary Brown has learned more about himself. “I have gained a deeper appreciation for the balance between academics, athletics, and community involvement,” Brown said. “It has reinforced my belief in the importance of perseverance, discipline, and giving back. I’ve also grown in confidence, knowing that my efforts are making an impact.”

With the 2025 Bursary Program underway and open to submissions, Brown has some advice for anyone that is thinking of applying. “My advice to future applicants is to showcase not only their achievements in hockey but also their commitment to academics and community involvement,” said Brown. “Be authentic about your journey, challenges, and aspirations. Hard work and dedication go a long way, and this bursary is a great opportunity to be recognized for your efforts.”
