CAMBRIDGE, ON – Former Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) official Chris Martenet reached the pinnacle of hockey officiating on Thursday, October 29th, making his debut as a National Hockey League linesperson when the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Utah Mammoth.

For the 30-year-old, reaching the NHL marks the culmination of an extensive journey across the sport, both as a player and an official. Prior to refereeing career, Martenet enjoyed a 12-year playing career spanning 13 teams across six leagues. Selected 103rd overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he went on to help the London Knights capture the 2016 Memorial Cup alongside future NHL stars Mitch Marner, Evan Bouchard, Matthew Tkachuk, and Robert Thomas.

His playing career took him from the OHL (London Knights, Ottawa 67’s) to international leagues with the Kladno Knights in the Czech Republic and the Glasgow Clan in the British Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), where he concluded his playing days in 2024–25.
